Cement Mixer

A concrete mixer is also often referred to as a cement mixer. The function of a cement mixer is to combine cement with sand or gravel, and water to form concrete. The most common type of cement mixer uses a revolving drum to mix the cement, sand and water.

A portable cement mixer is often used so that the concrete can be made at the construction site, giving the construction workers ample time to use the concrete before it hardens. An alternative to a machine is mixing concrete by hand in a wheelbarrow.

Portland cement is the most common type of cement in general usage in many parts of the world. It is the basic ingredient in the production of concrete. Concrete is a composite material consisting of aggregate (gravel and sand), cement, and water. As a construction material, concrete can be cast in almost any shape desired, and once hardened, can become a load bearing structure. Portland cement is also used in mortars (with sand and water only) for plastering, and in rendering when cement/water mixes are squeezed into gaps in brick work, foundations, roadbeds, etc.

Cement mixer trucks are an important function in laying large amounts of cement in one area. They will keep the mixture fresh and wet while the cement is travelling to a specific location. One of the features that you may want in a cement mixer truck is an all wheel drive, also referred to as a 4x4. This helps the truck to manoeuvre and move with the flow of traffic when going over steep inclines or other difficult areas. Because of the weight that will be on the back of the cement truck from the mixer turning with the materials for cement, it is best to have more power on the truck.

A further feature to consider with cement mixer trucks is the flexibility that they will have so they can manoeuvre about more easily. The primary function of a cement mixer truck is to deliver large amounts of cement to a construction site. If it is difficult for it to back into the right area, then it will become difficult to take the cement out of the mixer. Having a front or a lift axle often solves this problem.

The mixer drums on cement trucks come in a variety of sizes and with several different styles of drums. The amount and texture of cement required for the typical job will help to determine the right truck for your company.

By knowing the specific features that are needed in a cement mixer truck in relation to the onsite job needs, can help in the delivery of good cement to one area and overall onsite job efficiency.
