Concrete Mixers

Concrete is a material used in building construction. It consists of a hard, chemically inert particulate substance, known as an aggregate that is bonded together by cement and water. The major part of concrete besides the cement is the aggregate. Aggregates include sand, crushed stone, gravel, slag, ashes, burned shale, and burned clay. Fine aggregate (fine refers to the size of aggregate) is used in making concrete slabs and smooth surfaces. Coarse aggregate is used for massive structures.

Thorough mixing is essential for the production of uniform, high quality concrete. Therefore, equipment and methods should be capable of effectively mixing concrete materials containing the largest specified aggregate to produce uniform mixtures of the lowest slump (a term used to describe how consistent a concrete sample is) practical for the work. Separate paste mixing has shown that the mixing of cement and water into a paste before combining these materials with aggregates can increase the compressive strength of the resulting concrete. The paste is mixed in a high-speed mixer. The premixed paste is then blended with aggregates and any remaining batch water, and final mixing is completed in conventional concrete mixers.

Concrete mixing is a demanding job. Whether you're a contractor who provides concrete services or a property owner simply looking for a way to renovate a building, you need concrete mixers to fit the job. Depending on the size, location and type of job, there are specific concrete mixers to meet your requirements. Concrete mixers range from small electric mixers to full-size concrete truck mixers.

Ready-mixed concrete, the most common form of concrete, refers to concrete that is batched for delivery from a central plant instead of being mixed at the construction site. Each batch of ready-mixed concrete is tailor-made according to the specifications of the contractor. The concrete is then delivered to the contractor in the cylindrical trucks known as concrete mixers.

Concrete mixers have come along way since the early 1900’s when a horse-drawn mixer delivered concrete that used paddles turned by the cart's wheels to mix concrete on route to the construction site. The availability of heavier trucks and better engines have allowed mixing drum capacities to increase, which in turn have allowed ready-mixed concrete producers to meet the high demand for concrete.
