What Are Standard Concrete Mixers?

Standard concrete mixer trucks are basically a rotating mixing drum mounted on a truck with special clutches and gear boxes to ensure that the rotation of the drum in transit is maintained at a constant optimum rate of rotation regardless of driving speeds and conditions. During transportation, the mixing action of the concrete is continued to prevent segregation of the ingredients and undesirable settling of the wet concrete between leaving the central plant and arriving at the job site. 

When Are They Used?

Standard concrete mixer trucks are ideally used for construction jobs where large quantities of concrete are required and the site is within accessible travel from the central concrete batching plant where wet concrete is produced. They are used where there is an economical advantage and it is more efficient to mix the wet concrete at a central batching plant located near gravel and sand pits than to mix it at the job site where the ingredients have to be transported and stored. The mixed concrete is then loaded into standard concrete mixer trucks destined to the construction site in which the mixture is to be used.
