Utranazz, the concrete equipment specialist, has supplied C A Blackwell (Contracts) Ltd with four custom-made 6m3 demountable concrete mixers for use on the Clyde Wind Farm Project. Blackwell will use the concrete mixers to batch and discharge 21,000 cubic metres of concrete on the south section of the project, which is the largest single consented onshore wind farm in Europe with 152 turbines and a capacity of 350MW.
Utranazz designed the 6m3 mixer units to be totally self-contained so they could simply be fitted to a demountable frame and then mounted onto the Bell 30D Mark V Articulated Dump Trucks Blackwell already owned – providing Blackwell with a considerable cost-saving. Once the wind farm project is completed the mixer units can easily be demounted and replaced with the skip bodies previously carried.
Due to the height of the Bell Dump Trucks, it was necessary for Utranazz to adapt the mixing / discharge system and move it to an operator-friendly height. In addition, a platform and ladder had to be constructed to allow operator access to clean and inspect the mixer. The project took Utranazz eight weeks to complete.
Tony Evans, Managing Director of Utranazz, said: “We were delighted to be able to work with Blackwell on this unusual project. We specialise in providing custom-built concrete equipment to meet the most demanding and exceptional requirements from our customers.”
