3 Things You Need to Know Before Buying a Concrete Pump in the UK

Concrete pumps have become the workhorses of the concrete industry, helping to reduce building time and enable some of the most difficult structures to be built in the most unreachable of places. The concrete pump has meant that concrete mixers don’t have to wait while wheelbarrows are used to transport concrete and a good concrete pump operator can pump their concrete through or over buildings to difficult building sites.

Not only have concrete pumps made life much easier and quicker on building sites in the UK, around the world, concrete pumps have allowed skyscrapers to grow bigger and bigger with powerful pumps that can transport concrete hundreds of metres to the top.

When looking for a concrete pump for sale in the UK it’s really important to make the right choice as these intricate pieces of equipment work under high pressures and use hazardous materials. We want all of our customers to make sure that they are getting the most out of their equipment so here are three of the most important things you need to know before you buy a new or used concrete pump.

What Type of Concrete Pump do I Need?

It’s a difficult decision to make because there are so many different types of pump, from small trailer-mounted pumps to large placing booms. Our most common type of concrete pump in the UK is the Truck Mounted Concrete Pump. It is such a versatile piece of equipment as the boom allows it to reach inside or over most houses and get to those difficult to access areas, saving time and hassle compared to relying on workers with wheelbarrows.

For smaller sized projects, a truck mounted boom pump can be difficult to manoeuvre and set up, especially in congested cities. For these instances, a trailer-mounted pump can be compact enough and powerful enough to move large quantities of concrete.

Our Trailer-Mounted Boom Pumps are perfect for cramped building sites as they can get the concrete to hard-to-reach places while taking up the minimum amount of space. Our standard Trailer-Mounted Concrete Pumps are small in size but are incredibly powerful, with outputs up to 120 cubic metres per hour over 300 metres (with additional boom line). This makes them ideal for even small projects that need to be completed quickly, as they can be towed to practically any location and pump concrete through buildings and warehouses.

What Size Concrete Pump do I Need?

The size of the concrete pump you need is often dictated by the type of work that you have. The larger truck-mounted concrete pumps have concrete outputs of up to 185 cubic metres per hour with boom heights of up to 65m. While these monsters are capable of doing almost any sized task on any site, if most of your jobs are for residential properties or small-scale jobs, turning up in a large pump can be overkill and a much smaller city pump from our range could do the work more efficiently.

On the small end of the scale, we have an array of trailer mounted concrete pumps with outputs ranging from 15 to 120 cubic metres per hour. These nimble machines are perfect for placing concrete in hard-to-access areas because of their compact size, they can also be used as an alternative to truck-mounted concrete pumps on larger pours that require slower output rates.

If you need something a bit more specialist, we are only too happy to look at creating a bespoke piece of equipment that may suit your needs better. For example, we have designed and manufactured truck mounted concrete pumps to meet specific size and weight restrictions. We have also lowered hoppers to make concrete pumps more accessible and easier for unloading concrete from a volumetric mixer.
